海寶寺

海寶寺也有一座著名的佛塔，叫做「海寶塔」。海寶塔原本的修築年代不祥，因為塔在銀川市區的北邊，所以當地人稱之為「北塔」。

據說，很早以前這裏曾經是一大片蘆葦叢生的湖泊溼地，海寶塔就座落在湖中的小島上。每逢陰曆四月初四，人們出銀川城向北，乘舟過大湖，趕往海寶寺參加一年一度的廟會。

根據明朝萬曆年間的方誌資料記載，大夏國王赫連勃勃（西元407～427年）曾經重修海寶塔，這麼算起來海寶寺至少有1600多年的歷史。不過海寶塔分別在清康熙、乾隆年間兩次被地震摧毀，今天的海寶塔是乾隆三十四年（西元1778年）重建的磚塔。

海寶塔是海寶寺的主要建築之一，是平面呈方形、九層十一級的樓閣式磚塔，高53.9公尺。塔建在四周有磚砌花牆的方形台基上。

塔身雖然呈方形，但是四壁出軒，每層四面各設有券門，而且都略為向外突出，構成特別的十二角形塔身。塔內是上下相通的方形空間，各層以木板相隔，沿窄的木梯可以登上塔頂。塔身四面轉角處都懸有風鈴，頂端是磚砌的四角攢尖頂，頂上有一座四面桃形綠色琉璃塔刹。海寶塔的獨特建築風格，為中國古塔所罕見。
