造神

　　須佐之男之命把大蛇退治後，照約定與被救少女櫛名田結婚；並在須賀(島根縣大原郡大東町)營造殿宇。詠歌曰:''厚厚的雲層，出雲的八重圍籬，妻子居裡邊；構築起八層牆垣，把那牆垣作起來''。須佐之男之命與妻子和睦地住在須賀之宮，生下很多子神，其中一位是大國主命。之後，去了根之國(黃泉之國)。

(一)受難

(1)稻羽之白兔:

　　稻羽之國(後之因幡之國，今之鳥取縣)住著一位稱為八上姬的美麗女神。大國主之命的異母兄弟八(八為多數之意)十神們，連袂前往求婚；大國主之命將兄神們的行李裝入大袋，背負跟隨；途中見一隻白兔，皮開肉綻，痛苦哀嚎；兄神們告以用海水把傷口洗淨，再讓山風吹乾即可治癒；白兔遵囑作後，更加痛苦；最後到達的大國主之命詢以何以致此?白兔說:牠們住在淤歧(今之隱歧)島，欲往對岸的氣多之崎；向海裡的鱷鯊誆稱，你們首尾相連，讓我從你們的背上跳過去數一數，就知道有幾隻？到底是你們多？還是我們比較多？。

　　鱷鯊不知有詐，排列整齊，讓白兔跳過；就差一步即可到達對岸，以為計已得逞，忘形之下，脫口說出:太好了!你們被騙了!。最後一隻鱷鯊勃然大怒，咬住我，撕開我的皮毛；按照你的兄神們教的方法做了以後，反而更加痛楚。大國主之命頓起惻隱之心，讓牠先到河口以清水洗盡鹽分，再用帶有花粉的香蒲穗鋪在地上翻滾，終於痊癒。八十神們抵達了八上姬住所，並未獲其首肯，反而表示願意嫁給仁慈善良的大國主之命。這使祂們心生嫉妒，並欲置其於死地。
